Movies to come out this year

Remember our heroes...

I know that Christmas is already long gone, but I really love this poem.  It really makes me think about who protects our freedoms...we should be grateful.  Thanks to all our military men and women and their families - we owe a lot to you.

A SAILOR’S CHRISTMAS

Twas the night before Christmas, the ship was out steaming,

Sailors stood watch while others were dreaming.

They lived in a crowd with racks tight and small,

In a 80-man berthing, cramped one and all.

I had come down the stack with presents to give,

And to see inside just who might perhaps live.

I looked all about, a strange sight did I see,

No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.

No stockings were hung, shined boots closed at hand,

On the bulkhead hung pictures of a far distant land.

They had medals and badges and awards of all kind,

And a sober thought came into mind.

For this place was different, so dark and so dreary,

I had found the house of a Sailor, once I saw clearly.

A Sailor lay sleeping, silent and alone,

Curled up in a rack and dreaming of home.

The face was so gentle, the room squared away,

This was the United States Sailor today.

This was the hero I saw on TV,

Defending our country so we could be free.

I realized the families I would visit this night,

Owed their lives to these Sailors willing to fight.

Soon round the world, the children would play,

And grown-ups would celebrate on Christmas Day.

They all enjoyed freedom each day of the year,

Because of the Sailor, like the one lying here.

I couldn’t help wonder how many lay alone,

On a cold Christmas Eve on a sea, far from home.

The very thought brought a tear to my eye,

I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

The Sailor awakened and I heard a calm voice,

“Santa, don’t cry, this life is my choice.”

“Defending the seas all days of the year,

So others may live and be free with no fear.”

I thought for a moment, what a difficult road,

To live a life guided by honor and code.

After all it’s Christmas Eve and the ship’s underway!

But freedom isn’t free and it’s Sailors who pay.

The Sailor says to country “be free and sleep tight,

No harm will come, not on my watch and not on this night.”

The Sailor rolled over and drifted to sleep,

I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours, so silent so still,

I watched as the Sailor shivered from the night’s cold chill.

I didn’t want to leave on that cold dark night,

This guardian of honor so willing to fight.

The Sailor rolled over and with a voice strong and sure,

Commanded, “Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas and all is secure!”

  Hope you all had a great Christmas!!  Ours was small and busy with family, yet we had some good quality time together as our own little family.  I'm really liking this "break" time, although I wish it was more than a wekk long!! :P

     I was tagged on one of my friend's blogs a while back and here are my answers:

• Post seven random facts about yourself
• 1) I love to talk and I'm not joking when I say that...I have to get my 30,000-50,000 words in every day or I'm not happy.  Unfortunately, my parents are most often the recipients of my "random ramblings" which can include almost every topic under the sun.:)
• 2) I'm a great procrastinator.  I admit it.  I would much rather be watching Gunsmoke on YouTube than getting my documents printed off the computer or getting next semesters schedule written out.  I'm glad for Christmas break, but I'm afraid I'm not taking the best advantage of it like I should be.
• 3) I have too many likes/favorites to list here.  Suffice it to say, I have a lot. :P
• 4) Life is like a Ferris wheel for me or maybe more like a roller coaster ride.  Sometimes it seems like the days fly by and I haven't gotten much done so when the days are slower, I still don't get everything done.  Hence the ^laziness admission above.
• 5) I love to laugh and to make my friends laugh.  When you're feeling depressed or frustrated, laughing is a good remedy; it helps you relieve stress.  So the next time you're not feeling so great, call up a friend and just talk.  Or watch a silly video on YouTube.  I guarantee that you'll feel better after laughing that stress away.
• 6)  I love to read. Books are my way to "escape" reality.  I live through the characters and wish I lived in their time era.  But I sure am glad that we have the modern conveniences that we do.  Life wouldn't be the same without showers, computers and microwaves.  Or email either. :)
• 7) I can't really think of one last thing to say...except that I'm a unique person and I sometimes don't really understand myself.  And when that happens, there ain't nobody that can understand me.

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas...literally :)

   
     I always love snow for Christmas.  It makes it so...Christmasy-feeling.  But we don't have a stitch of snow here in our little town, so I guess I'll have to be content with looking at pictures and wishing we were back in CO because they have lots of snow.  I don't want a blizzard but just the thought of snowflakes drifting lazily down while we're opening presents and Christmas music is playing in the background...it sounds perfect.

     Sorry I've been MIA for so long - my classes at school got over yesterday (actually Wednesday because yesterday we caroled in the halls for choir and watched "Dolphin Tale" which by the way, is the sweetest movie ever.  I laughed and cried and loved it!!  I'll be doing a review on it sometime next week (along with some book reviews) over at my other/new blog, The Media Mix .  I have a feeling that I'm going to be doing a lot of things next week (including some long over-due posts; sorry for the lack of reading material on here) so we'll see what I end up getting done.  We're going to try and get the Christmas/New Year's letter and picture(s) out next week - we didn't do a letter or picture last year, so I really wanted to do one this year.  After all, it's my last year home and I did quite a few things last summer that I want people to know about (bragging? maybe a little...:)

     We're heading up to my grandparents tomorrow morning to spend Christmas with them and my aunt, uncle and cousins.  Dad only has until Sunday off, so it will be a short trip.  We haven't seen everyone since deer-hunting in November (not that long ago, actually :)  but it'll be fun to see them again.  We're opening presents tonight and having a neighbor lady over for supper and possibly going roller-skating as a family (the 4-H program is having a "Christmas party" w/ roller-skating) but I doubt there will be that many people there.  It should be fun though.

     This was a long post - and no pictures.  I don't have Fb yet so I don't have Pinterest (which would be nice :)  so that's why it's all words.  I'm off to help Mom make cookies, pack for the weekend, and run downtown for a few last-minute gifts.  And try to get rid of this cold I have...:(  I stayed up late for probably 4 nights this week, watching Perry Mason, The Lone Ranger, The Range Busters and Gunsmoke...shame on me!!  It's my own fault that I'm sick, but hey - I have all of next week to rest up!! :) Not that that's an excuse...:)

New blog!!

   In case that title excited dread in your mind, never fear...I'll still have this blog be my main way of communication.  I created another blog because I really want to do book, movie, and music reviews over
 The Media Mix  - I haven't done any decorating/updating/getting it lookin' spiffy, so it's not much to look at.  But I hope to get it up and going during Christmas break!! :)

I have a feeling that I'm going to be doing a lot of things during Christmas break - but I'm planning on getting the most important things done first though...;)

I'm all done!!! :)

 Not with school yet - I wish though. :)  In case you didn't read my last post, (which I totally understand:)  I took and finished the ACT test today for the 2nd time!!!! I"m so glad to be done with it too!!!  The Math seemed easier than last time and the English and Reading were not that hard either.  The Science is what got me this time - I'm hoping to get a 23-25 score this time because then I can apply for at least a minimal scholarship if not more at the school I finally choose to go to.

So just a heads up on my life this weekend- I have a 4-H Club Christmas Party tonight to go to, so I'm off to cleaning and laundry (you don't even want to see my room right now - it's not a pig-sty yet but it looks like a cross between a tornado and a....um...well...I don't know what else - but I do have clothes everywhere to put away)...:)

I know what I said, but I couldn't resist!!! :)

 I know that I said I wouldn't be on here until Christmas break and I'm not technically breaking that promise (this isn't one of those "fun" posts, full of photos, clothes, etc)...it's more of a really quick update. :)  I'm taking the ACT test tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM - (way to early, in my humble opinion)...:P

But anyways, I wanted to let you know about this really awesome website that I used to study for the test.  It's: www.sparknotes.com - they have really helpful study guides for different kinds of tests but there also are articles/topics on pretty much anything.
   I found this really funny article entitled "Eight Questions That I Never Want to Hear About Homeschooling" or something to that effect.  The author went on to list eight questions that she frequently hears when people find out that she's a homeschooler (that kind of pertains to me because I'm a part-one too...that came out kind of funny :)  It was a really funny article because she had the answer that she would have given them plus a really funny "homeschoolerish" answer.  It was hillarious!!!!!! :)

So there's a little update - not very exciting, not any pictures, probably not something that I would be that interested to read if I was one of my blogs' followers (well I am, in a sense...just not like ya'll are)...hope ya'll enjoy your weekend!!  I'm off to take a hot bath followed by an early-to-bed mindset......:) <3
